Scottish recruitment experts Eden Scott are this week launching a new division, ES Digital, to meet the growing demand for specialist digital roles across Scotland.

Despite the fact the sector is worth £1.5bn and is responsible for over 101,000 jobs, the country is experiencing a digital skills shortage. The growth in Scotland's SME sector particularly within fintech, cloud computing, e-commerce and gaming amongst others has really fuelled this demand.

Headed up by digital specialist, Jennifer Telfer, a senior consultant within the existing Sales and Marketing team, the new division will specifically focus on roles that meet the demand of this growing digital sector.

Where marketing recruitment used to be dominated by Account Management and Marketing Manager roles, over 60% of the jobs Eden Scott searched for last year were in specialist front-end digital areas such as analytics, user experience (UX), paid search, inbound marketing and user interface development (UI) amongst others.

"The changing nature of how businesses operate, the way they promote to and transact with their customers online means the personnel they need are far more technical. This encouraged us to look again at our approach to recruitment in this sector. It made commercial sense for Eden Scott to now have specialists working in this area who truly understand what these roles require and who would have the requisite skills to succeed."

"Many of the start-ups in this space are experiencing rapid growth as they expand from their Scottish roots and demand the very best talent to help their business grow. I've spent the last four years immersed in this industry and I am truly passionate about digital talent and business’ in Scotland." Said Jennifer Telfer, Eden Scott

Although start-ups dominate much of the discussion within the digital world at the moment it’s clear that traditional businesses have had evolve too. Those that have managed to survive and prosper have all adapted their proposition to succeed online which again has increased the demand for technical proficiency in areas such as e-commerce.

M & Co, who have enjoyed their best trading performance in five years, have developed a strong digital offering allowing them to open up even greater markets and complement the 240 high street stores that remain.

“As the M & Co business model has evolved to incorporate e-commerce we have adapted our team to ensure the customer experience in our shops is reflected online. So we require the very best technical minds with great experience in e-commerce. With her in-depth knowledge of the sector Jennifer has been the perfect recruitment partner. She understands the skills we need and makes sure we interview the right specialist.” Said Nichola Toner, Head of E-commerce at M & Co

While Eden Scott have identified an increase in demand for new digital roles they have also experienced a rise in demand for traditional skills with a digital slant. The value of traditional PR skills; identifying the angle of a story, copy writing and influencer engagement for content marketing is vital to agencies and in house teams.

Eden Scott client Query Click, a search consultancy in Edinburgh, were looking to identify a PR resource to not only build the profile of the company but also work as part of the content marketing team.

"At QueryClick we’ve had strong growth driven by the results we've achieved for our clients. We've developed a team of digital specialists with a focus on performance marketing. However the importance of content and the evolution of inbound marketing has highlighted the value of traditional PR skills in the digital world. Identifying trending content and building relationships with key influencers is invaluable to improving website performance." said Scott McBay, Head of Search Marketing QueryClick

Eden Scott have ambitious growth plans and this expansion signifies their commitment to employing specialists in key markets to differentiate within the competitive recruitment market.

"Launching ES digital highlights the flexibility and passion we have within our business. Our team identified a need in the market and took the initiative to capitalise on the opportunity. We are looking forward to helping the digital disruptors grow with the very best staff”, said Chris Logue, Founding Partner, Eden Scott.
