We recently had the pleasure of attending the Scotland Food and Drink conference at the RBS Conference Centre in Edinburgh. As members of Scotland Food and Drink, we have specialised consultants, with industry experience, who specifically recruit within the Scottish food and drink market.

It’s great to see Scotland’s food and drink industry continuing to flourish. Whilst the Scottish Food & Drink fortnight is underway, celebrating the best that Scotland’s food larder has to offer, it seems apt to reflect on the success of the industry in recent years.

I attended the excellent 3rd National Business Convention yesterday, delivered by SCDI and The Federation of Small Business.

Contributing over £800m to the Scottish economy, employing over 27,000 people in 592 companies and institutions (source BIA Scotland), the life sciences and biotechnology community is one of Scotland's cornerstone industries. With all the evidence pointing towards further growth in this sector, with both large blue chip businesses and indigenous SMEs expanding, a critical issue is the availability of well qualified graduates and skilled employees to fill all job opportunities.

Last night was the exclusive Scottish Engineering Dinner Awards at the Marriot Hotel in Glasgow. Hosting a table, Eden Scott had the pleasure of spending the evening with some of the biggest names in the Manufacturing and Technology industry.

The Scottish food and drink industry is flourishing. As recently highlighted in The Grocer magazine (1 June 2013), Scotland’s Food and Drink industry is set to reach its target revenue of £12.5 billion by 2015. Since 2007, there has been a staggering 28% increase in Scottish brands being purchased throughout the UK, along with a 63% rise in global exports.
