The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is the professional regulator for nurses and midwives across the UK and also nursing associates in England. It works with these dedicated practitioners to ensure they have the knowledge and skills to deliver consistent, quality care that keeps people safe. The NMC is changing and developing its strategy for 2020-25. Building its relationship with the public will be a crucial element of its plans for the next five years.

Professional regulation can be a bit of a mystery to the public – but making sure we all receive the best, safest care possible from nurses, midwives and nursing associates is at the heart of everything we do at the NMC.  I’m delighted you are interested in this important new role. You will be instrumental in helping us build a better relationship with the public, ensuring we are trusted by them.  We need to be inclusive and responsive to their voices and actively build the public’s understanding of our professions and our role.

There is much to build on.  You will join an organisation that recognises we’ve not always got this right and is determined to improve.  You will work with a leadership team and colleagues who are ambitious for the future and dedicated to getting this right. And you will have support and challenge of partners from public and patient organisations and beyond who can see what we want to achieve and are willing to help us along the way.  With your expertise and experience, together we will make a difference.

Good luck with your application.

- Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Executive
