The name Tiso has become synonymous with outdoor sports in this country. With a flagship store basking in the shadow of the Cairngorm Mountain Range and enviable high street stores in large cities across Scotland and the North of England, Tiso's have become the industry leader in outdoor activity equipment.
But all this is a far cry from the back room of a boat shop in Edinburgh 60 years ago. Graham and Maude Tiso started trading in 1962 and quickly outgrew their back room and moved to their own premises on Rodney Street. Since then, the company has evolved and adapted to meet the changing needs of an ever-growing outdoor activities market.
Although Graham and Maude Tiso established it in the '60s, Tiso's is very much a family business, built on a shared passion for the outdoors and providing their customers with the very best product offering.
Chris took on the role of CEO in the early '90s and Maude assumed the role of Chair to ensure the values have remained the same from the very start.
- Passion for their brand, heritage, products offering and activities they love
- Ability to meet their customer's unique needs by providing a high-end expert product offering
- A collaborative and approachable culture among employees
- Stand out from the competition by responding to market trends and customers demands
Diversify and Grow
The Tiso estate employs over 400 people across its various outlets, which has grown and diversified as people's interests have changed. The team at Tiso's acquired Alpine Bikes in 2006, which led to a whole new product offering and a presence at one of the country's most popular downhill trails, Glentress.
They also acquired George Fisher in 2007, expanding down into the North of England.
Tiso's added specialist snowsports products to their range with the acquisition of Blues, the Ski Shop.
However, there was always an ambition to create a fully rounded retail experience, and that became a reality in Perth and then at their flagship store in Aviemore. Both offer a fully immersive experience, really taking the customer experience to the next level.
