Breakthrough Systems for Green Hydrogen
Clyde Hydrogen Systems is an innovative technology company building breakthrough systems for green hydrogen production at scale. Their disruptive decoupled electrolysis technology offers flexibility and opportunities that are not possible with existing electrolysers.
They are a spinout company from the University of Glasgow’s School of Chemistry, one of the world’s leading electrochemistry research groups. Their growing team is dedicated to helping drive the world’s successful transition to green hydrogen.
The Technology
Green hydrogen is seen as a key element in achieving the energy transition to zero carbon. It is produced by splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using electrolysers powered by renewable energy sources.
Existing electrolysers face challenges in a number of areas, including:
- managing variable/intermittent renewable energy sources
- complexity and high costs
- mechanical compression needed for high-pressure hydrogen
Clyde Hydrogen Systems has developed a new type of electrolysis that allows hydrogen and oxygen to be made in separate places and at different times and rates.
Their decoupled electrolysis offers significant improvements in a number of areas, including:
- Safety – no possibility of hydrogen and oxygen mixing
- Compatible with renewable energy sources – higher availability
- High pressure hydrogen production – without mechanical compression
- Simplified design – easier to scale-up
- Reduced costs – CAPEX and OPEX
Clyde Hydrogen Systems has redefined the architecture for the next generation of green hydrogen production systems.
