Bars Manager


Eden Scott is delighted to be working in partnership with Edinburgh University Students' Association. This organisation provides commercial services of outstanding quality which enhance the student experience, including multiple outlets of retail, catering, licensed trade and entertainment/event functions across many locations in the city and incorporating large venue operations during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The Students' Association is now seeking an exceptional Bars Manager to lead its significant Bar operation with 15 bars / outlets across 4 sites during term time and during the Festival 26 Bars over 3 sites.

This a fabulous role for an individual seeking to develop their skills in Bars Management across multiple outlets and during the Festival.

Key responsibilities:

To lead and manage ensuring the smooth front of house operation of all Students' Association bars, maintaining high standards of customer service and food/beverage quality at all times.

The post holder will focus on the Bars outlets and on ensuring a full bars service, but will have an operational understanding of the food service side of the business in bar areas and work closely with the Catering Manager on ensuring there is a coordinated approach to delivering high standards of service in all outlets.

To develop the Bars operation and drive the licensed trade business in the scope of agreed business and outlet operating plans, working with the Commercial Services Director to further develop these plans.

To develop and facilitate effective training and development programmes for all relevant staff to ensure exceptional levels of customer service.

To lead and line manage the Deputy Bars Manager and Bars Shift Managers, ensuring that they not only meet the required service standards at all times, but also achieve the margins required through effective agreed controls.

To provide support to the Festival Manager in the development of product ranges and service standards to maximize income opportunities.

To assist the Catering Team in the development of conference and other facilities and services in Students' Association premises.

To have maintain high levels of hygiene and stock control issues, and to ensure compliance with all current relevant statutory and licensing legislation

Essential skills and attributes include:

An enthusiastic, confident and extremely competent senior manager with demonstrable experience of managing bars to a high standard with excellent levels of service.

A person with very high expectations of themselves and others, with a passion for detail and the ability to maintain delivery at a consistently high standard.

Extensive demonstrable experience of managing staff (including a large number of part time staff) in a customer-focused bars role

At least 2 years' experience in a General Manager or Bars Manager role, with Profit and Loss account responsibility

Experience of managing multiple commercial units

Experience of managing large teams over multiple sites and during large scale events

This vacancy is for an initial 12 month contract which will then be reviewed.
