An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Association as Café Manager, this is a unique opportunity to get involved at the start of an exciting new chapter in the life of over 20,000 students in the heart of Glasgow.
Strath Union strive to enhance the Strathclyde University experience by promoting, representing and supporting students' interests and welfare. Their diverse social, cultural, activity and sporting opportunities offer all students the chance to thrive as they provide a variety of services that are aimed at making sure students have the best possible experience while at university, be that through academic and social support or through the facilities they provide.
The Association have a custom designed, state of the art brand new venue due to open in September 2021. There are four separate outlets and venues to cater for within this space alongside a dedicated events space, meeting rooms and corporate and event catering and functions. This full year dedicated service works to deliver a high quality to students, staff and visitors to the University of Strathclyde.
They are recruiting this vitally important role to ensure that as life returns to some sort of normality post pandemic, the Student Union is in the best possible place to meet the changing needs and demands of tomorrow's students.
The ideal candidate in this position must thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, maintaining a courteous demeanour with customers, as well as effectively make use of quiet times. Strong leadership and personnel management skills should be accompanied by a customer service focus and commitment to company values and image. You will work alongside the Commercial Team to take student services at the University to the next level.
The Café Manager will pay close attention to all operational details to ensure the comfort, safety and enjoyment of guests and job satisfaction of staff, as well as the financial success of the establishment. The role is hands on, and you will be customer facing.

Key skills required:
- 2 years or more supervisory / management experience
- Barista skills and experience
- Experience of working to budgets & forecasts.
- Evidence of using EPOS and stock management systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of food safety legislation
- Understanding cafe and catering trends
- Aware of H&S reviews and H&S legislation

Salary of £23,067 - £25,941 depending on experience, this salary rises each year within its pay scale up to the maximum of £25,941, this role is full time and Monday - Friday, occasional evening and weekend work dependent on business needs.
Significant company benefits including 42 days annual holiday including statutory holidays, above average contributory pension scheme with a current rate of 22.5% employer contribution and employee of 5.5%-6.5% along with numerous other benefits.
