Operations Manager


Eden Scott is delighted to be retained by Findlater's Fine Foods to appoint an Operations Manager. Reporting to the senior management team, this is a key 'hands-on' role within the company.

The main focus of the role is general management and running of operations (outside of production) and supporting the production and sales departments.

Findlater's Fine Foods started life as a restaurant and delicatessen in Linlithgow in 2004 where they sold handmade pate made in the restaurant kitchen. The pate was such a success, that demand increased, and the business then built a much larger production kitchen to cope with demand.

Findlater's pates are still made in small batches, using equipment and methods you'd expect to see in a high quality restaurant kitchen. This ensures they deliver exceptional flavours and textures.

Findlater's produce a wide range of pate, including chicken, duck and venison, all made with top quality ingredients, including a generous amount of butter. The range extends to vegetarian and fish pates and also a range of gourmet dips and pies.

The business continues to innovate and expand their product range with many of Findlater's products awarded Great Taste Gold awards.

Main Duties

  • Management and organisation of Distribution and supply chain Transport in and out.
  • Management of refrigerated stock warehouses and Dispatch / low risk Packing and oversight of the team in those areas.
  • Management of operations admin and reporting on input deliveries and finished goods, Stores / Packaging
  • Planning / scheduling stock inputs to support production in conjunction with production manager and the general manager.
  • Oversight and management of HR, Recruitment activities and discipline.
  • Liaising with production, sales and admin departments
  • Management of goods-in, ensuring stock inputs are inspected, stored and all reported on to ensure compliance from suppliers on quality and value. Liaison with suppliers in conjunction with buying team as appropriate.
  • Responsibility for buying of some inputs.
  • Oversight and management of plant, buildings and surrounds organising regular maintenance and liaison with common area management team.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Strong, recent experience in a similar role within an ISO or food standard equivalent company
  • Solid proven planning skills
  • Significant experience of successfully working with logistics/ haulage companies and warehouse/ stock management.
  • Strong people manager with the ability to oversee Recruitment, HR and disciplinary activities
  • Proven ability to manage coach and mentor team members
  • Able to make appropriate decisions within the role
  • Strong team focus and commitment to working collaboratively
  • Effective communicator who can develop effective working relationships with colleagues, team members and suppliers
  • Proven skills and experience in supplier interface with a good commercial understanding of buying and ability to appropriately balance quality, price and lead-times
  • Ability to manage a range of associated administration tasks in a timely manner
  • Strong systems experience (paper-based and electronic) and able to consistently provide auditable reports, on a regular basis
  • Computer skills and confident in using MS Office applications
  • Food industry experience very much preferred
  • Passionate about good food.
