Test Development Engineer - Optoelectronics
Eden Scott's client is one of Scotland's growing technology businesses focusing on the manufacturing of optical components. Using direct write laser technology, the business delivers unique 3D optical solutions for customers globally.
The business is now going through a period of significant growth and as such, there is now a requirement for a Test Development Engineer to join the business.
Reporting to the Operators Director, the successful candidate will be focusing on developing test hardware and software solutions in the manufacturing area, with attention being paid to the ongoing improvements requires within an environment where production needs are increasing. Working with both design and development teams, this individual will seek new solutions for new technologies.
Specifying, designing, and validating new optical and mechanical test hardware and software working with design and development engineering functions
Monitoring and reporting the performance of the production test equipment to highlight the potential improvement areas for throughput and performance
Ensuring customer test requirements are understood and have been met before final product release
Characterising product performance by specifying and carrying out Device Verification Testing (DVT)
Working directly with production staff, engineers and technicians and providing support to design engineering
Supporting packaging design and qualification (including FVA attach processes)
Proactively encouraging means for cost reduction and lean manufacturing principles through design principles (DFM, FMEA, etc.)
Ensuring appropriate tools, techniques and methodologies are being applied, developed, and continuously improved
In addition, the role will include reliability engineering and analysis of all aspects of the product to ensure compliance with industry standards
The successful candidate will ideally be qualified in a relevant discipline (e.g. Electrical / Mechanical Engineering / Physics) with strong experience of optical test experience covering both hardware and software in a production environment.
Further requirements include:
Practical knowledge of optoelectronic and associated optical test and assembly methodologies
Programming and automation experience
Experience of optical fibre handling, termination, assembly, and packaging
Developing optical test procedures
Developing and maintaining dual 6 axis fibre alignment systems
An ability to analyse and present test data is a concise manner
Planning and executing engineering projects in line with business needs is required
C#& Python software development & automation experience
