The Falkland Islands Company - Joiner

Overview

The largest company in the Falkland Islands have been undergoing a recruitment drive within their construction sector, a Joiner is required to be based in the capital (Stanley) of the Islands on a permanent basis for two years working on a large timber kit housing development.

The Client

The organisation was granted its Royal Charter in 1852 and since then has been supplying the Falkland Islands with a wide range of essential services. The company's main areas of activity embrace retail (including food, clothing, electrical goods, home furnishings, gifts and DIY), residential and commercial property, the sale and hire of 4x4 vehicles, travel services including flight bookings, airport transfers and luxury coach and walking tours for tourists, insurance, agency services for cruise ships and fishing vessels and the provision of freight and shipping services to and from the islands.

The construction division of the company deals with a variety of projects, from home extensions to purpose-built executive homes, warehousing and offices.

Included is rental accommodation from their portfolio of property at a discounted rate with no deposit requirement, your flight paid for at either side of your contract plus assistance in acquiring a work permit.

Role: Joiner

One of the principal project requirements is for a joiner.

The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years' experience ideally working on any of the below and be minimum level 2 NVQ / SVQ qualified or an equivalent.

  • Experience working in building timber frame wall panels and roof trusses for timber frame houses
  • Experience in kitchen fitting and doors but be prepared to work on first fix joinery
  • Experience in building timber frame kit houses
  • Experience in fitting roof trusses and steel roof sheeting and prepared to do other work including fitting insulation and plasterboard

The successful candidates will receive an hourly rate of £16 an hour + benefits.
