Our global chemical manufacturing client is looking for an experienced and high performing Laboratory Technician to join their successful process plant and test centre.
The position entails conducting quality control testing on finished goods manufactured at the site, ensuring meticulous documentation and timely reporting of results. The laboratory's scope extends to addressing quality inquiries locally and participating in global queries. The successful candidate will engage in complaint handling, selection tests, and meeting specific customer requirements.
This is a temporary contract for a 5 month period.
The role:
- Operate all plant and associated equipment to achieve the required production in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures and the production plan.
- Carry out accurate shift reporting and data management using both paper and computer-based systems.
- Promptly inform their Supervisor of any irregularities in plant performance or control
- Implement systems or procedures as defined by Supervisors or Management for the safe operation of plant and equipment,
- Ensure the quality of finished product is satisfactory by adequate application of process control and correct packaging requirements.
- Understand and apply as appropriate the ISO9002 Quality Assurance System.
- Undertake routine checks on plant and equipment and investigate / repair faults as directed by procedures or Supervisor.
- Undertake general manufacture / operations tasks as directed by their Supervisor
- Suggest improvements to plant and procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Perform quality control testing at various stages of the manufacturing process using specialised laboratory equipment and adhering to defined procedures and protocols;
- Accurately record, and report data promptly;
- Adhere to all Health and Safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment across the site;
- Manage chemical stock and laboratory consumables to ensure readiness for testing requirements;
- Report any performance issues with materials or laboratory equipment to the QC Team Lead;
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment;
- Execute tasks within agreed timelines to meet both laboratory and plant demands;
- Initiate and conduct root cause analysis on any non-conforming materials with support from the Lab Team Lead;
- Proactively undertake cleaning, maintenance, organisational tasks, and other duties to maintain an efficient laboratory;
- Monitor site effluent discharge to ensure compliance with regulatory parameters for environmental standards;
- Prepare and dispatch sample requests for both customers and internal requirements.
Experience/Skills Required:
- Hold a qualification of HNC or higher in a relevant scientific field;
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Demonstrate strong prioritisation abilities for managing multiple tasks;
- Work effectively both independently and with minimal supervision;
- Adhere to deadlines with a results-oriented approach;
- Exhibit collaborative interaction skills with other departments and the laboratory team;
- Pay meticulous attention to detail during daily testing and promptly reporting any issues;
- Practice safe work habits and uphold proper housekeeping standards following 5S principles;
- Previous experience in quality control within a GMP lab facility is advantageous, but not essential;
- Show enthusiasm for learning and driving continuous improvement initiatives;
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures in a Quality-controlled environment;
- Proficiency in IT, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and data entry.
Experience/Skills Desired:
- Experience working in a QC laboratory environment;
- Capability to function in a regulated environment;
- Proficiency in analysing test results and compiling comprehensive reports.
Hours:
Mon - Thu 08:45 - 16:45 , Fri 08:45 - 15:30 and every 3rd Sunday after completing training
