About Cruise Loch Ness
More than half a century ago, Norman Hugh MacKenzie and his late wife Effie embarked on the maiden voyage of 'Cruise Loch Ness' along with the company's inaugural guests, on a used lifeboat. The family-run tourism business, headquartered in Fort Augustus, started with a capacity of just 12 passengers per trip and has since expanded continuously. Over the past 50 years, Cruise Loch Ness has entertained and educated more than a million passengers with thrilling tours across the famous loch.
Currently, the company remains committed to its founding principle of offering cost-effective tours to both local and foreign tourists. The objective is to make the loch and its surroundings accessible to as many individuals as possible, including those with special requirements. They also regularly provide free tours to the local groups.
Cruise Loch Ness has a team of nine enthusiastic local staff members who are considered part of the family. Ronald Mackenzie, Norman's son, and his wife Debi are now in charge of the business, with Ronald assuming complete ownership in 2000. Together, they have propelled the company forward, achieving a 5-star rating from Visit Scotland and winning numerous accolades, notably the Federation of Small Business's 'Small business of the Year' in 2019 and Visit Scotland Thistle Awards 'Visitor attraction of the Year' in 2018/2019.
