Eden Scott is delighted to be retained by Hire and Supplies Limited to appoint a new General Manager.

Reporting to the Managing Director, David Chandler you will in time have overall responsibility for the business when David retires. Based from the Dumfries office, this is an on-site position due to the nature of the business. 

An exciting time to join the business as they continue to grow and expand. 

You will be responsible for:

  • Helping to manage a fleet of equipment
  • Overseeing work planning and ensuring high standards of Health & Safety
  • Overseeing the coordination of deliveries & collection of equipment
  • Build and support the 5 department heads to take the business forward and strengthen revenue growth while maintain gross margin management. 

Hire and Supplies Limited, offer a wide range of Tool and Plant Hire Equipment based out of Dumfries and Oban. The product range covers on hire equipment such as Mini Excavators, Dumpers, Access equipment, through to power generation, Forklifts and Compact Rollers.  Both depots have a trade desk for consumables to support the customer base.  Customers cover a variety of public and private companies working in a wide variety of Industrial & Commercial sectors throughout Cumbria, South West and Midwest Scotland.

Knowledge of the hire industry would be beneficial, however, not essential. What is essential is a strong customer service background, with evidence of delivering the highest quality of service to your customers within a safe environment. 

Quality Service and Health & Safety is core to Hire and Supplies Ltd.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic leadership of the team, ensuring all managers and employees are supported and working together towards the same goals and directional strategy.
  • Promote and foster a safe working environment, where safety comes first.
  • Ensuring department heads and their teams are supported, staffed correctly and working effectively.  
  • Maintain and drive a professional relationship with customers, ensuring the highest level of service at all times. Any complaints are documented and actioned accordingly.
  • Provide and encourage effective communication across the company.
  • Full P&L responsibilities to ensure on-going profitability and growth.
  • Provide clear and accurate reporting to the board.

Experience Required: 

  • Evidence of working at a strategic level within a high-quality customer service and health and safety focused industry. Previous experience within the Hire industry would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience of managing high performing teams.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, with evidence of working at a strategic level as well as the willingness to ‘roll your sleeves up’ and be hands on when needed.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels and with all stakeholders, including customers.
  • Previous P&L responsibility.
  • Commercial astute with evidence of budget setting, KPI management and performance management.
  • Computer literate.
