We're working with a growing environmental consultancy seeking a Senior Ecologist to join its established Scottish ecology team. This is a fully remote opportunity, offering genuine flexibility while providing access to a wider network of ecology and environmental specialists across the UK.
You'll play a key role in delivering a diverse range of projects across sectors including renewables, infrastructure, utilities and residential development, helping clients navigate ecological constraints while supporting positive environmental outcomes.
This role would suit an experienced ecologist looking to take the next step in their consultancy career, with opportunities to lead projects, develop client relationships and mentor junior colleagues.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Ecologist, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality ecological input across a varied portfolio of projects. You'll lead survey programmes, undertake ecological assessments and provide practical advice to clients and project teams throughout the planning and development process.
Working closely with fellow ecologists and multidisciplinary teams, you'll help ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest technical standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and managing ecological projects from inception through to completion
- Designing and undertaking ecological surveys and site assessments
- Producing and reviewing technical reports, including PEAs, EcIAs and protected species reports
- Supporting clients through planning and environmental consenting processes
- Managing project budgets, programmes and client expectations
- Liaising with planning authorities, statutory consultees and project stakeholders
- Mentoring and supporting Consultant and Assistant Ecologists
- Contributing to proposals, tenders and wider business development activities
- Working collaboratively with environmental, planning and engineering teams on multidisciplinary projects
About You
We're keen to speak with ecologists who can demonstrate:
- Consultancy experience within ecology or environmental planning
- Strong knowledge of UK ecological legislation, policy and best practice
- Experience managing ecological surveys, assessments and reporting
- Strong project management and organisational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Experience mentoring junior team members
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental
