Ocutec
A revolutionary contact lens manufacturer
Inspired Technology
Contact lens companies know from experience that silicone-hydrogel materials are a challenge to develop. Clinicians know SiHy lenses may deliver good oxygen permeability, but they can be less comfortable at the end of the day. They are typically too complex to manufacture.
Ocutec Ltd. a Scotland-headquartered corporation, has developed a solution to this problem. They specialize in the development and commercialization of soft contact lenses utilising polyethylene glycol (PEG) polymer chemistry as the basis of their highly biocompatible contact lenses.
The Solution
The industry has known about PEG’s remarkable potential for decades. But no one has succeeded in developing a chemically stable material with a commercially viable shelf life.
Ocutec’s solution to the PEG stability challenge was to use innovative poly-urethane chemistry instead of traditional free radical chemistry. The result is their proprietary OcuPEG polymer material platform.
Customer Satisfaction
Great comfort makes for satisfied content lens users. Sustaining surface wettability through a long day of wear is key. The mobile PEG molecular chains on the surface of high water (74%) PEGLens are highly hydrophilic, sustaining surface moisture and limiting dehydration.
The result is an Ocutec lens that delivers prolonged tear film break up time (TBUT) consistently throughout the day, essential for comfort.
Comfort is additionally enhanced by the thin design profile of PEGLens and its high oxygen transmissibility, which reduces end-of-day corneal fatigue.
