The Scottish Fire And Rescue Service

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of the people of Scotland.

It may seem that their role is pretty straightforward — to prevent and control fires—but they do so much more than that.

They respond to many different emergency incidents to keep communities safe. These include:

  • road traffic collisions
  • rope rescue
  • water rescue
  • hazardous materials
  • flooding
  • assisting our partner agencies

As we all know, the best way to deal with an emergency is to prevent it from happening in the first place. So, their role starts before any 999 call is made.

They work with key partners to deliver fire safety messages and create safer communities.

SFRS Values

We have four values that we live and work by:

  1. Safety
  2. Teamwork
  3. Respect
  4. Innovation

It is about how we do things, how we treat others, what we say and how we say it, and how we expect to be treated. You can read more in our values document.

It is our mission to work together for a safer Scotland. In doing so, we can help reduce the instances of fire and play a vital role in the safety and well-being of the people of Scotland.

Why Join SFRS

It’s not just firefighters who make Scotland a safer country. Our Support Staff work across a range of careers, and all contribute to our daily objectives.

We have a wide-ranging variety of roles within our Support Staff functions, including the roles that we are currently recruiting for.

Working in an emergency service is a unique experience—supporting front-line officers in delivering mission-critical services means that no two days are the same.

The job satisfaction of knowing that we are contributing to the safety of our communities is high, and we take pride in working for an organisation that is so well regarded and respected in society at large.

What does the future hold?

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service is experiencing a considerable period of transformational change, with a root-and-branch redesign of our service delivery and back office.

Our post-war delivery model no longer aligns with the changing risk profile of our communities or modern ways of working and living.

Strategic review programmes are underway, and this is an exciting time to help us redesign our services so that we realise our ambition of being one of the world’s leading fire and rescue services.

Take a look at our long term plans and the strategic vision we have been working towards.
