About SSSC

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) plays a key role in supporting and shaping Scotland’s social services workforce. As the national regulator, it helps ensure high standards across social work, social care, and children and young people’s services, with a clear focus on protecting the public and improving outcomes for those who rely on care and support.

Working closely with the Scottish Government, SSSC is set up as a non-departmental public body, with strategic direction provided by its Council and committees. Its approach is grounded in openness, accountability and good governance, making sure decisions are transparent and always made in the public interest.

Behind the scenes, the organisation is made up of teams focused on regulation, workforce development and business services. Together, they balance robust standards with a real commitment to learning, development and long-term improvement across the sector.

At the heart of everything SSSC does is a simple goal: to help build a confident, skilled and trusted workforce that delivers high-quality care across Scotland, always putting people who use services and their carers first.
