For those of us working full time, we have a minimum of 28 paid holiday dates to take each year. But sometimes, that doesn’t feel like enough. Now more than ever, many of us are prioritising family time and rest in a way that we might not have in the past. 

So, we’re going to let you in on a little secret. If you want to boost your annual leave dates, you can book your time off work to coincide with this year’s bank holidays and weekends. That way, you can enjoy longer periods of time off without needing to use up a high percentage of your annual leave allowance.
 

Who can maximise holidays in 2023?

This only applies to people whose employers give them paid time off on bank holidays. While employers must give employees 28 days of paid leave per year (pro rata for part-time employees), it’s at the employer’s discretion whether these days should fall on a bank holiday.

These holiday hacks will also only be effective if you work the traditional Monday - Friday full time, with time off work on weekends.

January 

If you’re looking for an extended break after Christmas, booking 3 days of annual leave in January would give you 9 days off work.

Don’t forget the extra bank holiday in November! it falls on a Thursday in 2023, so it’s not a great option to take annual leave around this time if you want to make the most of your 28 days’ holiday entitlement plus weekends.
