Amanda Croft

Interim Chief Executive, NHS Forth Valley

My experience of working as the Interim Chief Executive for NHS Forth Valley over the last seven months has been very positive and I wouldn’t hesitate to encourage anyone interested in making a real difference to consider applying for this important and rewarding role. I’ve received a very warm welcome and seen many examples of innovative, high-quality services delivered by highly skilled, experienced and enthusiastic staff who are focussed on improving patient care and health outcomes.

Good progress has also been made over the last year in response to being escalated to stage 4 of the Scottish Government’s Support and Intervention Framework and I know that the senior leadership team, along with Board members, are committed to ongoing work to support our continuing journey of improvement

Delivering Excellence

NHS Forth Valley is one of 14 regional health boards in Scotland. It serves a population of more than 306,000 across a diverse geographical area in the heart of Scotland.

The Board manages an annual budget of approximately £570 million and employs around 8,000 staff. The organisation boasts Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, a modern acute hospital considered one of the most advanced and well-equipped in Europe. This primary hospital is supported by a network of four community hospitals, 56 health centers, day centers providing care for patients with mental illness and learning disabilities, and a wide range of community-based services.

NHS Forth Valley is also home to the Scottish Centre for Clinical Simulation and Human Factors, a state-of-the-art training facility where medical staff hone their skills using computerised mannequins. This dedication to training is reflected in NHS Forth Valley's recognition as a top destination for medical education and training in the UK according to a survey of trainee doctors.

Health & Social Care Partnership

The Scottish Government's program for reform, Integration of Health and Social Care, aims to improve services for people who rely on adult health and social care. This initiative ensures a joined-up and seamless approach to health and social care provision across Scotland, particularly for individuals with complex and long-term needs, often including older adults and disabled people.

Integration facilitates easier and quicker access to necessary services and support, promoting independent living in one's own home for an extended period.  There's no need for individual action; services have been collaborating behind the scenes. Health and social care staff are working more closely to deliver coordinated care within local Forth Valley communities.

Two Health and Social Care Partnerships (HSCP) cover the Forth Valley area – one for Clackmannanshire and Stirling and another for Falkirk.
