About Newbattle Medical Group
Newbattle Medical Group is an NHS GP practice based in Midlothian, providing primary care services from its surgeries in Mayfield and Danderhall. The main practice building in Mayfield opened in 2004 and has supported the delivery of local GP services for over two decades. In 2023, Danderhall Medical Practice joined the group, allowing Newbattle Medical Group to increase capacity and respond to the changing needs of the local population.
As of 2026, the practice provides care for more than 24,000 registered patients, making it one of the larger GP practices in the Lothian area. The patient population includes long-standing local residents alongside many people who commute to Edinburgh. Improved transport links, including the Borders Railway, have supported continued growth across the area, increasing demand for accessible and well-organised primary care services.
The Opportunity
Newbattle Medical Group are searching for a Practice Manager to take responsibility for the overall day-to-day running of the GP practice, ensuring services operate smoothly, safely and in line with NHS Scotland requirements. Working closely with the GP Partners, the role oversees staff, finances, systems and service planning to support high-quality patient care.
About You
- Proven experience managing staff and leading operational teams in a busy environment.
- Strong organisational, communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A good understanding of business or healthcare administration, with confidence working with finance and IT systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing the smooth and effective running of the practice, including patient services, staffing, premises and core systems.
- Managing finance, HR processes and governance requirements to ensure the practice remains compliant and well-managed.
- Working closely with the GP Partners to support planning, service improvement and the ongoing development of practice systems and processes.
