Finance Business Partner – Ongoing Contract (35 hours per week)
Edinburgh, hybrid/remote | Competitive rate, DOE
Eden Scott Accountancy & Finance Division is delighted to be supporting a purpose-led organisation based in Edinburgh with the appointment of a Finance Business Partner on an ongoing contract basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to help strengthen the organisation’s financial processes, reporting and planning frameworks.
The Organisation
Our client is a values-led organisation currently reviewing and developing its internal finance processes. With elements of the finance function supported externally, the organisation is looking to create a more streamlined and effective approach to budgeting, forecasting, grant management and management reporting.
The Role
Working closely with the senior management team, departmental managers and external finance partners, the Finance Business Partner will help improve financial visibility and support more informed decision-making across the organisation.
The successful candidate will review existing processes, identify gaps and implement practical improvements across budgeting, forecasting, reporting and financial controls. This position would suit someone who is comfortable working autonomously within a smaller organisation and can combine hands-on delivery with effective business partnering.
Key Responsibilities
• Review existing budgeting, forecasting and management reporting processes to identify gaps and areas for improvement
• Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts and financial plans aligned with the organisation’s strategic objectives
• Work with managers and budget holders to establish cost centres, spending plans and clear financial responsibilities
• Produce accurate monthly management accounts, variance analysis and financial performance reports
• Develop project and grant budgeting tools to monitor funding allocations, expenditure and reporting requirements
• Monitor financial performance across multiple projects, identifying budget pressures, risks and corrective actions
• Create dashboards and reporting tools that provide clear visibility of financial and operational performance
• Support senior leadership, committees and board members with meaningful financial reports and presentations
• Work closely with programme managers and team leaders to forecast resource requirements and project costs
• Strengthen financial controls, approval processes and governance procedures
• Support funding applications by preparing budgets, monitoring expenditure and producing reports for funders
• Provide guidance and training to managers and budget holders on financial processes and accountability
• Support the ongoing improvement of finance systems, reporting and planning processes
• Help create a finance framework that is straightforward, sustainable and easy to monitor through regular finance meetings
Candidate Profile
• Previous experience in a Finance Business Partner, Management Accountant, Finance Manager or similar role
• Strong management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting experience
• Proven ability to review processes, identify gaps and implement practical improvements
• Experience working within a charity, not-for-profit, SME or similarly agile environment would be highly advantageous
• Knowledge of grant management, restricted funding and project accounting is desirable
• Comfortable working within a small finance team or as a standalone finance professional
• Able to combine strategic thinking with hands-on financial delivery
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to support non-finance managers
• Qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience candidates will be considered
• Strong Excel skills and confidence working with finance systems and reporting tools
What’s on Offer
• Ongoing contract opportunity
• Full-time hours of 35 hours per week
• Hybrid or remote working, with the organisation based in Edinburgh
• Competitive rate depending on experience
• Opportunity to shape and improve financial processes across the organisation
• Broad and varied role working closely with senior leadership and operational teams
• Meaningful opportunity to support a purpose-led organisation through an important period of development
