Were working with a boutique environmental consultancy (1015 staff) based in Inverness to hire a Senior Ecologist. This is an opportunity to join a genuinely flexible and mission-driven team working across renewable energy, woodland creation, ecological restoration, biodiversity enhancement, and infrastructure projects throughout Scotland.

Current projects include ecological support for major infrastructure and utility schemes across the Highlands and Islands, habitat and pollinator enhancement programmes on public sector estates, biodiversity net gain initiatives, and land management projects ranging from small sites through to landscapes exceeding 100 acres. Work is taking place across locations including Orkney, Culloden, Tiree, Islay, Jura, and the wider Highlands, with a strong pipeline of projects planned for the coming years.

About the Role

You'll lead and mentor a small team of 23 ecologists, contributing your technical knowledge while managing surveys, reporting, and client engagement. You'll also have the autonomy to shape your workload depending on your interests, whether that's bat activity surveys, peatland restoration, habitat management, or biodiversity net gain strategies.

You'll be involved in:

  • Leading field surveys and reporting (especially bats, habitats, peatland, GWDTE and biodiversity enhancement projects)
  • Supporting unique pollinator habitat and ecological restoration initiatives across Scotland
  • Contributing to biodiversity net gain assessments and land management plans
  • Providing ecological input into infrastructure, utility, and renewable energy developments
  • Occasional ECoW cover on projects (training provided if needed)
  • Supporting and mentoring junior ecologists
  • Travelling to remote Scottish sites, including Orkney, Skye, the Western Isles and other island locations (air travel provided where required)
  • Engaging with clients across infrastructure, renewables, housing, conservation and habitat creation projects
