NHS Borders has approximately 3,200 staff working over 50 different sites within the Scottish Borders, including the Borders General Hospital in Melrose, and community hospital facilities in Hawick, Peebles, Duns and Kelso.
The area is geographically large (covering 1800 square miles) mostly rural with small burghs and very sparsely populated areas.
The Scottish Borders serves a population of approximately 120,000.
