About The Craighalbert Centre
The Craighalbert Centre has been at the heart of specialist education and therapy for children and young people with motor impairments since its establishment in 1991. As one of Scotland’s Grant-Aided Special Schools, it is partially funded by the Scottish Government to deliver high-quality, integrated therapy and education for those affected by cerebral palsy and similar neurological conditions.
The purpose-built, well-resourced centre is staffed by a team of highly trained and experienced professionals, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, teachers, and early years practitioners. Working collaboratively, they provide tailored, specialist support designed to help children and young people maximise their abilities, achieve their full potential, and develop the highest level of independence possible.
Craighalbert’s programmes support children and young people from birth to 19 years, offering a range of specialist and age-appropriate interventions. Unlike many organisations where the focus is on limitations, Craighalbert takes a strengths-based approach, identifying and enhancing each child’s unique abilities. Through a holistic and empowering environment, children are encouraged to progress, flourish, and engage fully in life.
With a firm belief that every child deserves access to the right support, the Craighalbert team remains dedicated to improving mobility, communication, and independence for those they work with. Their commitment to excellence makes them a vital resource for families across Scotland.

Craighalbert’s Mission and Vision
The Craighalbert Centre is a rights-respecting organisation dedicated to supporting children and young people across Scotland who experience complex communication, learning, and health challenges.
The centre has embedded the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in every aspect of its work, creating an inclusive environment where children can fully exercise their rights. By working closely with children and their families, Craighalbert helps them navigate challenges while ensuring that their voices are heard, their rights are recognised, and they are given equal opportunities to thrive.
At the heart of the centre is a commitment to a holistic approach, focusing on each child’s abilities rather than their challenges. Our mission is to enable children and young people to maximise their abilities, achieve their full potential, and develop the highest level of independence possible. With a vision rooted in continual learning and development, Craighalbert aims to extend its impact, sharing insights and methodologies to improve children's services across Scotland.
