Pension projects client manager

  • Glasgow
  • 50,000 - 65,000 Annual
  • Permanent

Due to ongoing growth and a restructure of their highly performing team, a rare vacancy has arisen for an experienced client manager with deep technical skills and projects background in DB pensions to join an award winning firm who have offices across the UK. The position can be based from either Edinburgh or Glasgow. This is a pivotal and senior-level opportunity within a cross-business team, suited to an individual who thrives on balancing client leadership, commercial delivery and strategic oversight across a portfolio of complex pension data initiatives.

The successful candidate will take a lead role in overseeing a portfolio of large-scale pensions data projects, with a particular focus on GMP-related work and broader data transformation programmes.  Operating as the most experienced individual within the immediate team, this role combines hands-on delivery leadership with strategic direction, ensuring projects are executed effectively while aligning with wider business and client goals.  Working across multiple internal business areas, the position offers significant exposure and the ability to influence outcomes at both operational and strategic levels.

Key responsibilities

Portfolio & project leadership

  • Oversee a portfolio of concurrent pensions data and GMP-related projects, ensuring delivery to agreed scope, timelines and quality standards
  • Provide strategic direction across the portfolio, identifying risks, efficiencies and opportunities for improvement
  • Coordinate input from cross-functional teams to ensure seamless execution across the business

Client engagement & advisory

  • Act as a senior point of contact for clients, building strong, trusted relationships
  • Set clear expectations around delivery, timelines and outcomes with confidence and credibility
  • Lead client discussions, providing expert insight on complex data and regulatory-driven projects

Commercial management

  • Maintain a strong commercial focus across all activity, ensuring work is appropriately scoped, costed and delivered profitably
  • Monitor financial performance across the project portfolio, managing budgets and identifying growth opportunities
  • Contribute to business development through identifying additional services and supporting client expansion

Leadership & team management

  • Lead and develop a team of approximately 6 colleagues, including 2–3 direct reports
  • Provide coaching, performance management and clear direction to ensure high standards are maintained
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team environment across both direct reports and the wider function

This role will suit a highly experienced pensions professional who brings:

  • Strong expertise in UK pensions data projects, including experience with GMP-related work
  • Demonstrable experience managing multiple complex projects or programmes simultaneously
  • A confident and credible communication style, with the ability to influence and challenge clients where required
  • A commercial mindset, with a clear understanding of profitability, client value and project efficiency
  • Strategic thinking capability, with the ability to oversee and guide a diverse project portfolio
  • Proven experience managing and developing teams within a professional services or consultancy environment

Along with an excellent salary, leading benefits package, bonus and car allowance (although travel not required within the role), there is the opportunity to step into a senior, high-impact role within a growing and highly regarded function.  An exposure to complex and varied projects across a broad client base in a collaborative, cross-business environment where innovation and ideas are encouraged.  Flexible, hybrid working model with offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow - flexible as to where the candidate can be based.
